Dr. Visconti is one of the two providers in Michigan to offer the Veinwave, a revolutionary
treatment for spider veins and telangectasia. The Veinwave system uses heat energy to
target small spider veins. The energy from the heat is delivered to the blood vessels
and the veins disappear through a process called thermocoagulation - the walls of the vein
stick together and the vein eventually collapses. Each vein can be targeted with the
ultra-fine needle that is used during the treatment.
The Veinwave has been used in Europe for over 8 years - the FDA approved the Veinwave for
the treatment of spider veins and telangectasia in June, 2009. Our office is pleased
to offer this new and exciting treatment - the Veinwave can be used to treat spider veins
on the legs as well as small veins on the face.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the treatment hurt?
Some patients experience a mild discomfort but the treatment is very tolerable - especially
compared to electrolysis, laser, or intense pulsed light treatments. It is not
necessary to use any anesthetic for the Veinwave procedures.
How long until patients can resume normal activity?
The patient may immediately return to normal activity. While you can apply makeup over
the treated area, it is recommended that you do so lightly to enable the skin to breathe and
recover.
How does the treated area look afterward?
Some patients experience immediate results; the veins almost completely disappear after
treatment. Others have a response that resembles a "cat scratch" - this typically
fades away after 2-3 weeks.
Can I have a Veinwave treatment if I have a sprayed-on suntan or if I frequently visit
a tanning salon?
For optimal results, Dr. Visconti recommends avoiding all tanning methods and products for one
week prior to the treatment and for one week after the treatment.
How long does the treatment take?
Using the Veinwave is quick and simple - a treatment session will typically last 20 minutes.
What do I need to do in order to begin treatment?
Simply call our office at 231.439.9700 and we will schedule an appointment. When you come
into our office, we will evaluate your veins and decide if the Veinwave is right for you.
At this point, treatment can be initiated immediately.
Will my insurance cover this treatment?
Because this treatment is considered cosmetic, insurance companies will not cover this
procedure. The cost for one 20-minute session is $250. Depending on the extent of
your spider veins, you may only need one treatment.
