A CT scan, also referred to as a CAT Scan, is an imaging procedure that combines x-rays and state-of-the art computer technology to produce cross-sectional images of any part of the body including internal organs, bones, soft tissues, and blood vessels. The images provide your doctor with detailed anatomical information, which helps to make a definitive diagnosis.

A CT scan may be performed with our without contrast. “Contrast” refers to a substance taken orally or injected intravenously which causes the tissues or organs of concern to be seen more clearly. To prepare for your CT scan, please follow the instructions outlined below:
CT IV Contrast Prep:
You will need to have a recent (within the last month) blood draw including BUN and Creatinine levels. Please inform our office immediately if you have an allergy to iodine or IV contrast. We will also need to be notified if you are diabetic or if you have a history of renal failure.
CT Oral Contrast Prep:
You will need to pick up the oral contrast and contrast instructions at the Gaylord office 24 hours prior to exam.
CT Abdomen and/or Pelvis:
You will require both oral and IV contrast for your CT scan. It is also extremely important that you do not eat or drink any fluids four hours prior to your exam.
CT Head, Brain, Abdomen, Pelvis, Chest, Face, Neck, Sinus:
Your referring doctor will determine if contrast is required for your exam. Please contact our office if you are unsure about the required preparation.
CT Angiography:
You will need to follow the IV Contrast Prep (see above). Do not eat or drink any fluids one hour prior to your appointment.

At Image North, we understand our patients’ financial struggles in the current economic climate and we are constantly striving to keep our patients informed about the costs associated with diagnostic services. In addition to estimating your balance prior to your exam, patients also have access to our fee schedule. These charges include the radiologist's interpretation and the CT exam itself. Keep in mind that this fee schedule reflects Image North's charges - this is the maximum charge for a CT scan. If we participate with your insurance carrier, we will accept their contracted rate. This is especially important for patients with high deductibles. Please contact our billing office if you have specific questions about your insurance carrier's fee schedules.
